      In this second installment in Bergren's adult Christian fantasy series, the story is told from two points of view. Adriana, an empath, and her knight, Ronan, are on a quest to rescue the emperor's brother. Their romance is forbidden but a challenge to resist. Jorjeana Marie narrates in gentle tones that reflect the characters' affection. Her male voices are a little strained, but she effectively differentiates the two primary voices. Maintaining an easy and relaxed pace, she lulls the listener into believing that the unfolding events are harmless. As the struggle of good against evil intensifies, her pace picks up.
